Overhaul of I-295 in Ward 7, other neighborhood-cleaving roads among projects considered for federal infrastructure dollars

DC’s Build Back Better Infrastructure Task Force, appointed by the mayor, released a report identifying projects that could be funded by federal infrastructure dollars. Among the proposals is the possible conversion of the portion of I-295 that separates Kenilworth, River Terrace, and Eastland Gardens from the rest of Ward 7 into a complete street. Metro pilots faregate redesigns to discourage fare evasion

Metro launched a faregate redesign pilot at Fort Totten station made to discourage fare evasion. WMATA General Manager and CEO Randy Clarke said Metro will collect more data based on the pilot before making a decision on a system-wide change to faregate designs.  (Jordan Pascale / DCist)  

Residents of affordable housing complex protest rising rents, poor conditions

Tenants of Southern Towers, an affordable apartment complex in Alexandria, are protesting higher-than-expected rent increases and a decision to make residents responsible for utility payments. Racist, homophobic slurs found at College Park Metro station

Tech issues plague Fairfax County’s new online land use system

Developer pitches residential development, public plaza in Silver Spring

Plans for a 415-unit residential development on Georgia Avenue near the Forest Glen Metro station include a key amenity: a public plaza complete with outdoor seating and landscaping.
