The summer heat wave did not deter cyclists in June, as Capital Bikeshare (CaBi) set a new all-time monthly ridership record with 584,402 trips. This marks a 35.7% increase from June 2023 and surpasses the previous milestone, set just a month earlier, by over 69,000 rides. Annual ridership now totals 2,584,530 rides through June 2024, a 32.3% increase from 2023.

June’s record-breaking ridership peaked on June 8, the busiest day in CaBi history with 24,141 rides. The milestone was celebrated by Bikeshare in a post on X, shown below:

With June’s staggering system use, CaBi has now recorded 30 consecutive months of year-over-year monthly ridership increases. Members continue to carry the network as 63% of June trips were taken by riders who hold an annual pass. E-bikes also consistently make up nearly half of all rides month-to-month. 49.1% of trips were aboard the electric option rather than the classic red bikes.

Capital Bikeshare’s growing popularity has also resulted in several cameos across the District. On June 7, the Washington Nationals’ traditional “Presidents Race” between presidential mascots featured several former commanders-in-chief riding CaBi’s classic red bikes. Abe Lincoln’s narrow victory can be seen in a post on X from the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) below:

In other news, local CaBi cruiser Stanley Seiden completed his quest to dock at all 790 Capital Bikeshare stations This Guy Biked to All 790 Capital Bikeshare Stations. Kudos to you, Stanley! This month’s Pedal Medals highlight his feat, along with updates on our bikeshare friends in Boston (Bluebikes) and the San Francisco Bay area (Bay Wheels). CaBi continues to lead the way!
