Breakfast links: Welcome to July
Trackwork for July
Metro has released their weeknight and weekend trackwork schedules. As usual, the easiest way to keep up with trackwork is through our service disruptions calendar, maintained by Matt Johnson.
Virginia will pay
WMATA and Virginia are very near an agreement ensuring Virginia matches of federal dollars and the federal money can go ahead. Virginia has agreed not to tie the funding to getting some Board seats, but are still pushing to get those. (Kytja Weir/Examiner)
WMATA TOD on the Web
WMATA has created a new page showing all the TOD projects going on around their stations.
Red no more, still little
A Near Southeast mascot, the Little Red Building, will be demolished on Tuesday … to make way for a different two-story building that will house a liquor store. (JDLand, David C) (Tip: David C)
Transparent windows = light pollution?
The new CVS by Petworth Metro has avoided blacking out its windows, but that means it’s much brighter than everything else in the area at night. Is that light pollution or welcome sidewalk illumination? (Park View DC)
For streetcars before against them, or always for them?
Mike DeBonis finds a “for it before he was against it” moment for Vincent Gray: In 2006, he opposed reprogramming streetcar funds, unlike his May move. Or maybe it just shows his May move wasn’t really an attempt to kill the streetcar. Anyway, I didn’t put much stock in this “for it before he was against it” stuff in 2004 either. The question is, what’d Gray to be for in the future?
How many taxis?
Are there not enough taxis in Prince George’s? Or too many? The County Council will consider expanding the number of licenses, and there are plenty of arguments on both sides. (Daniel Valentine/Gazette)
Not so protected
A Montgomery County police officer politely but still improperly sexually harassed a woman near Glenmont (Holla Back DC) … Northern Virginia police continue to refuse to release information of any kind. (Reason)
