WMATA needs to do better, says DC transportation head
DC’s new transportation director Leif Dormsjo says the region’s transit authority needs to change. This might not sound like shocking news to most riders, but it’s a sentiment many top WMATA officials don’t share or seem reluctant to admit if they do. Dormsjo and Corbett Price, both appointed to the WMATA Board by Mayor Muriel Bowser, recently spent… Keep reading…

What it will take to get Metro out of crisis

Waits for a Metro train could get longer or trains could not run at all after midnight on weekends, if the WMATA Board adopts a budget proposal released yesterday. Fares would also rise by 10¢. Many bus lines could also come less often or stop running earlier, and Metro buses to the airports would stop completely. Is this for real? It’s likely that fares might rise, but… Keep reading…

Ask GGW: With another fare hike in store, why is Metro still short on cash?
WMATA is hiking fares while still claiming it needs more money. How does the agency’s financial status compare to that of other large US transit agencies? Have member jurisdictions’ contributions to WMATA changed recently? Our contributors do their best to explain some of Metro’s finances in this week’s Ask GGW. Reader Samuel Inman asks: Can… Keep reading…
