No fare hikes today

Riders and advocates harshly criticized WMATA’s proposals to raise fares and cut service. DC’s Jack Evans and Arlington’s Mary Hynes strongly oppose them, but Maryland board member Michael Goldman said the state may not be willing to pay any more. (WTOP, Post)  

Help for the homeless

The plan to move homeless families out of DC General will wait until next year as DC has no vacant property it could turn into shelters. (City Paper) … DC will hire “housing navigators” to help find homes for families currently living in shelters. (WAMU)  

Chevy Chase continues fight

The Town of Chevy Chase will continue paying lobbyists $116,000 over four months to fight the Purple Line, even though it isn’t clear what the lobbyists have done with the $400,000 spent so far. (BethesdaNow)  

Carpool express

One-third of all drivers in the new I-95 express lanes are carpooling. Another one-third uses both the 95 and 495 express lanes during their commute. The lanes replaced and added to former carpool-only lanes. (Post)
