Better Know a Single-Member District: 7D06
“The fightin’ 7D06” Walkable urbanism is coming to 7D06 and the surrounding neighborhood. The burning political question in the area is, are residents ready for it, and will it benefit their community? 7D06 is one of four Single-Member Districts touching the corner of Minnesota Avenue and Benning Road, often called “downtown Ward 7.”… Keep reading…

ICC overrun more than entire Columbia Pike streetcar
The price tag for the middle segment of the ICC, from Georgia Avenue almost to Columbia Pike, has jumped another $100 million. BeyondDC points out that Virginia could build the entire Columbia Pike streetcar for less money than Maryland is wasting on the overrun alone for this one segment. Keep reading…

I’ll put up a post about it as soon as I can find some time. Meanwhile, yesterday’s Post article has good background on the topic, and And Now, Anacostia comes closest to my thinking… Keep reading…

Dinner links: You should go to Monday’s hearings edition
Graham isn’t against streetcars: Despite reports in the press, Jim Graham assured BeyondDC that he isn’t opposed to the Anacostia streetcar line. He just wants to ask questions. It’s a good opportunity to educate the Council on the need for streetcars there, on H Street, and elsewhere. Monday, July 14, 10:00… Keep reading…

Breakfast links: Interesting ideas from the past edition
Mall plus plus: The July 2006 issue of Washingtonian presented a vision for the National Mall that would create landfill and new canals behind the Jefferson Memorial to create space for new memorials and a relocated Supreme Court; the VRE tracks would also be buried to restore Maryland Avenue as a mirror of Pennsylvania. Thanks Nick! Keep reading…

Greater Baltimore & Washington Transit Future pocket version
I’ve created a new version of the Transit Future map, with some updates, at the request of Maryland PIRG. This version is smaller, without all the station names, so it’s easier to see everything at once. Click on the map for a bigger version. Keep reading…
