A pedestrian trail connecting residential neighborhoods with the McLean Metro station on the eastern side of Tysons is now open. Construction on the Scott’s Run Trail finished in late December, officials said.

The curvy trail is a little less than a half mile long, with two new steel frame pedestrian bridges over a stream and tributary. Construction included installing a 10-foot wide ADA compliant paved path as well as lighting, signage, and handrails.

The trail starts on Magarity Road, near Westgate Elementary School and the Pimmitt Hills neighborhoods, running through Scott’s Run Stream Valley Park and Westgate Park toward the Metro station.

Robin Geiger, a spokesperson for Fairfax County, said the county started construction on the $4.5 million trail in July 2019 and finished this last December.

Because it is so curvy, bicycles are discouraged on the trail, Geiger said.

The trail is one small part of the Tysons Comprehensive Plan, which calls for a network of walkable routes including trails and prioritizing access to Tysons’ four Metro stations. A similiar project, the Vesper Trail, opened in 2019 to connect neighboring Vienna with the Spring Hill Metro.
