DC schools may get healthier, soda more pricey
The DC Council is posed to approve a bill by Mary Cheh (Ward 3) to require healthier meals and more physical education for public school students. A tax on soda would pay for this and generate additional money for other budget priorities. (Post)

One determined ticket-fighter
Intent on fighting a speed camera ticket, Peggy Lucero of Bethesda discovered that the camera wasn’t being calibrated daily, which is required by law. She also challenged the 30-mph speed limit on Gaithersburg’s section of MD-355. SHA engineer (and GGW commenter and prolific supplier of useful CC Flickr photos of roads) Andrew Bossi recommended increasing the limit to 35, but Gaithersburg wants to keep and even expand the 30-mph zone to slow traffic. Budget not better for everyone
The current budget still hits bus riders harder than rail riders (Examiner) … The Post prints a letter from Penny Everline pointing out that while most fixed-route service cuts have been eliminated, most cuts for persons with disabilities were not.
