Car2Go is expanding to Arlington, but don’t pick up a car in DC and leave it there. Trips need to begin and end in the same jurisdiction. Arguing that it used to be part of the District probably won’t help. (City Paper)
Ride On or not
Montgomery County is cutting service on three Ride On bus routes that serve Rockville and Germantown. The county is making major budget cuts and is also cutting a proposed new route to Tobytown off River Road in Potomac. (Post)
Split or ride alone
Seems like our newest ride hailing service, Split, isn’t doing much splitting. The service is set up so a driver can pick up other passengers along the way, but most riders pay less than with Uber or a taxi, even by themselves. (WAMU)

Pershing Park proposals
There are five finalists to redo Pershing Park into a new WWI memorial. As it is now, the modernist park is severely neglected. Preservationists would like the current design to stay with some sprucing up. (CityLab)
Count them
DC is working to count homeless youth. Regular homeless censuses often miss young people who sleep on couches or double up in apartments. The District hopes this count will help target better services for this group. (WAMU)
Housing vouchers
Vouchers are a great way to help people who need housing. They give people more choices and don’t concentrate poverty but it is hard for people to find landlords who will take them. (CityLab)

In our region, fewer people are paying for homes with cash. But some neighborhoods attract those cash transactions more than others. In Georgetown almost half of the real estate transactions involved cash. (WBJ)

The cooling system for Farragut North and Dupont Circle stations is broken. To fix it, WMATA needs to dig under Connecticut Avenue. Riders complained about the heat but said it’s still better than New York’s subway. (NBC4)
