On Monday, we posted our sixth photo challenge to see how well you know Metro. Three of our readers took photos of different stations. Here are the answers. How well did you do?

We got 26 guesses on this post. 5 people got all of the images right. Congratulations to Merarch, Randall M, Phil, Russell, and Rob K!

Image 1: Gallery Place. Photo by DC Transit Nerd.

The first image is a photo from Gallery Place. The tunnel at center is the northbound track. The two biggest clues to figuring this one out are the double-height ceiling and the “Yellow Line” artwork in the upper right. 17 of you got this one right.

Image 2: Mount Vernon Square. Photo by DC Transit Nerd.

The second image was taken at Mount Vernon Square/Convention Center. This station has an extra-large mezzanine, thanks to the adjacent Walter Washington Convention Center. Several of you guessed Gallery Place, which also has an enlarged mezzanine, but Gallery Place’s mezzanine is not quite so spacious, and is obstructed by faregates. 14 of you knew this one.

Image 3: Federal Triangle. Photo by Ben Schumin.

The third image was taken at Federal Triangle. The unique feature here is a provision for a future exit to the east side of 12th Street NW. 10 of you correctly guessed this one.

Image 4: Navy Yard. Photo by DC Transit Nerd.

The fourth image turned out to be a bit easier than intended since the station pylon is visible. It’s Navy Yard. This mezzanine at the western end of the station was recently completely rebuilt as part of the deal to bring a baseball team to Washington. The roomy mezzanine sits beneath the DDOT headquarters on M Street. 25 of you got this one.

Image 5: New Carrollton. Photo by Sand Box John.

The final image was taken at New Carrollton, looking northward at the rail yard beyond the station. The main giveaways here are the “end ATC” sign (indicating that this is the end of the line), the tail tracks (at every other surface railyard the tracks go straight into the yard), and the unused provision for a station bypass track to the far right of the image. 15 of you got this one.

Thanks to Ben Schumin, DC Transit Nerd, and Sand Box John for submitting photos! Thanks to all of you for playing.

Next Monday, we’ll have 5 more photos for you to identify.
