Colleges vie for St. Elizabeths spot
The District is seeking an academic anchor for the planned 500,000 square foot Innovation Hub at St. Elizabeths East. A dozen colleges have expressed interest with a decision due next summer. (City Paper)
Fairfax looks at all-studio proposal
Fairfax could see some 100% studio apartment buildings if the Board of Supervisors passes a zoning amendment. 80% of the sub-500 square foot units would be restricted as affordable housing. (WBJ)
More mandatory breathalyzers in VA
With a new drunk-driving law on the books, the number of Virginia drivers ordered to have ignition interlock devices is up 75%. One-third of the state’s traffic deaths last year were alcohol-related. (WAMU)
Pepco appeals rate decision
As usual, Maryland’s Public Service Commission granted Pepco only a portion of its requested rate increase, but this time the utility will appeal. The approved increase would add $2.41 to an average monthly bill. (Gazette)
Another pedestrian bridge gone
The overhead walkway at 20th Street S. will be demolished in the next two weeks. Vornado is picking up the tab, and the county is hoping for a more active streetscape, which will include a new pocket park. (ArlNow)
