Arlington County moves forward with a Vision Zero plan
Arlington County Board approved a five-year Vision Zero action plan over the weekend, joining other jurisdictions throughout the region that are trying to curb traffic fatalities. The county’s goal is to reach zero traffic deaths by 2030. Currently, Arlington has about four traffic fatalities per year, and about 55 severe crashes. Keep reading…

Bike lanes are coming to University Boulevard in Wheaton this summer

A Montgomery bill requiring a permit to solicit on roads is being billed as a traffic safety initiative. Is it?
A bill introduced by Montgomery County Councilmember Craig Rice on April 20 would require a permit to solicit money or donations from vehicles on high-speed roadways. A public hearing is scheduled for May 10. How DC can reduce traffic deaths and make real progress on Vision Zero
Six years in, DC’s Vision Zero program can only be described as a failure. While there have been some marginal improvements to the city’s transportation infrastructure, it has been nowhere near enough to slow the number of deaths on our streets — in fact, they’ve been increasing. If we are going to engage in a genuine effort to eliminate traffic deaths and injuries, we need bold, system-wide solutions that tackle the District’s biggest safety concerns.
