A Fairfax County police officer hit a cyclist, and then gave him a ticket
This past weekend, a Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) officer hit a cyclist with their car at an intersection as the officer was turning right at a red light. The cyclist was taken to the hospital to be treated for his minor injuries, but his bad day didn't end there. The sun was setting as neighbors, supporters and mourners gathered on a hilly corner in Anacostia on Wednesday, April 24 to say goodbye and celebrate the life of someone gone too soon. Every time I read about a traffic fatality in the District, I breathe a sigh of relief when I don’t recognize the name. On Friday April 19, 2019, that all changed. Dave Salovesh, a friend to many DC transportation advocates and known to many more as @darsal on Twitter and a GGWash contributor, was killed by a speeding driver Friday morning. According to news reports, the driver of a stolen van, Robert Earl Little Jr. was racing from police when he hit a blue Hyundai at 12th Street, kept driving, crossed the center of the road, and then struck and killed Salovesh.
