Construction begins on second entrance to Crystal City Metro station
Ground just broke on a $146.1 million project to add a second entrance to the Crystal City Metro station. Expected to be completed in 2027, the project is part of an overarching plan to add transportation options like a new Amtrak station; a pedestrian bridge going into National Airport, and bike lanes. Hazmat truckers choosing Baltimore tunnels over 35-mile detour in absence of Key Bridge
Baltimore Banner reporters observed 40 tanker trucks entering the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel over the course of several hours, several of which displayed placards indicating the presence of hazardous materials that prohibit truckers from using the tunnels. Some truck drivers admit to removing their placards prior to entering the tunnels. A crash could be catastrophic, but law enforcement is doing little to enforce a 35-mile detour. Loudoun County makes way for new affordable housing
The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors voted to rezone a three-acre plot of land in Sterling to allow the construction of up to 80 affordable housing units. To demonstrate a commitment to affordable housing, the board approved the project after six months of review rather than the typical 12 to 18 months. (ABC 7)

Alexandria review board says condo development not tall enough
A report from the Carlyle/Eisenhower East Design Review Board says a proposed 13-story condominium development should add two more stories, a departure from typical new development pushback against adding height. The report also called for more “interaction” with the community on the ground level. (Vernon Miles / ALXnow)
Work underway on DC Water’s largest, most expensive project ever
Expected to be completed by 2030, DC Water’s new Potomac River Tunnel will run about 100 feet underground between Georgetown University and Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling. The project is aimed at reducing over 600 million gallons of sewer overflows each year. (John Domen / WTOP)
A residential neighborhood rose where Baltimore’s Memorial Stadium once stood
Baltimore’s Memorial Stadium shuttered in 1997 after more than 70 years of games at the site, but new residences now populate the area between the Waverly and Ednor Gardens-Lakeside neighborhoods. Nearby church leaders fought to redevelop the area as residential, and it includes income-restricted affordable homes as well as a hospice facility that serves people regardless of ability to pay.
