Yellow line set to reopen May 7
WMATA announced the opening date for the Yellow Line, which has been out of service since September 2022 for renovations of the line’s Potomac River bridge nearly 50 years after it was first built. The updates cost $384 million. (DCist)
No bike or ped crashes on Bethesda’s Old Georgetown Road since bike lanes added
Since bike lanes were added on Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda in October, no crashes have included bicycles or pedestrians and of the 35 crashes that have happened, none have been fatal. In the nine months prior to the bike lane installation, there were 40 crashes, with six involving pedestrians or bicyclists, including one fatality. Travel times for cars have increased by about 30 seconds, or between 7-13%, according to a local study. (Ginny Bixby / MoCo360)
NPS adding temporary reversible lane on GW Memorial Parkway for rush hour traffic
The National Park Service will close the southbound lanes of the George Washington Memorial Parkway and add a temporary reversible median lane on the northbound lanes between the Capital Beltway and Chain Bridge Road Route 123 while lanes are closed for the North Parkway Rehabilitation Project. Maryland Senate considers bill for public procurement of concrete with lower carbon footprint

Annandale replacing parking lot with a civic space this year
Annandale leaders are turning a former elementary school parking lot into a park. The park will be three-quarters of an acre and include flexible open space for events, a lawn, an educational garden, and a playground. It was first proposed in June 2018 and is expected to open this fall, in a part of town that has minimal open space like this. (Matt Blitz / FFXNow)
Tysons West developer scales down plan to 256 residential units
JBG Smith has reduced down its plans to convert the former Sheraton Tyson’s hotel. Instead of 400 residential units, there will be 256. The units will still include a park and retail, and be adjacent to the Spring Hill Metro station. (Angela Woolsey / FFXNow)
Changed plans for DC’s Skyland Town Center
Developers Rappaport and WC Smith have shifted gears on the final two parcels of the Skyland Town Center development. The new plans include 126 townhouses including 7 affordable townhouses and 75 affordable housing/ units for seniors instead of a medical office building. The site is now also planned to include more open space. A 263-unit residential building in the center opened in 2021. (Urban Turf)
