MD Purple Line contractor reaches labor union agreement
Workers started protesting in May when the contractor allegedly backed off of wage and benefit commitments it had previously made, and have now received wage and benefit commitments. Dupont Circle ANC approves Swann Street change, awaits official change from DC Council
The street was historically named for 19th-century Maryland slaveowner and governor Thomas Swann but the ANC resolution seeks to name it for William Dorsey Swann, a Black man who called himself the queen of drag and originated drag balls. Walter Reed developers start next part of residential section
The developers will begin construction on 50 three-bedroom townhouses along the southern portion of the property. Over half of the 2,200 total units planned for the redevelopment are under construction or complete. City of Takoma Park updates official data page, highlights disparities
The City of Takoma Park wants residents to be able to clearly see demographic changes evident from recent US Census numbers right on the city’s website. Key findings highlighted include the majority of residents being homeowners, but also highlighted are racial disparities in homeownership, economic opportunity, and other key city metrics. K Street medical office proposed for residential conversion
Developers have petitioned for zoning changes that would allow the construction to meet the Green Area Ratio requirement and be converted. The main addition to meet the ratio would be a “green screen” around the penthouse. (Urban Turf)
Driver hits woman walking with stroller in North Arlington
The woman was hit at the intersection of Military Road and Lorcom Lane on Tuesday morning. The woman went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and the child in the stroller was unharmed. (ARLNow)
Alexandria park could protect car windows from flying balls
The Alexandria Planning Commission is set to review plans in September for Joseph Hensley Park that include having a 30-foot netting around the park to ensure that street-parked cars next to the park don’t end up with broken windows from ball games their drivers might be enjoying.
