The WMATA “Transparent Metro Data Sets” API for Metrorail has been out for about two months now, and developers are starting to put together tools using it.

There’s a Facebook group for developers to discuss the APIs, and WMATA has even added new data beyond what was in the original spec, at the request of developers and the RAC.

Local Web design company nclud put together a interactive touchscreen installation visual display which shows the three Metro stations nearest their offices and the times of upcoming trains. Knowing how long it takes to walk to each station, it says whether each train is likely to have passed already before you arrive, or how many minutes it should still be once you do.
