On Tuesday, we featured the 116th challenge to see how well you know the Metro system. Here are the answers.

This week, we got 20 guesses. Nine got all five correct. Great job, Christopher Deal, Peter K, Emmanuel, AlexC, Robb, Solomon, Peter K is a nice guy don't be hatin' on him, Stephen C, and MtPDC.

Image 1: Waterfront

The first image shows the passageway to the elevator at Waterfront. This one should have been fairly easy because of the station vicinity map visible in the picture. The map is centered on Waterfront, and you can clearly see clues to the location, including the Washington Channel, and the divergence of the Yellow and Green Lines south of L'Enfant Plaza.

16 of you got it right.

Image 2: Suitland

The second picture shows the mezzanine at Suitland. This is one of four High-Peak stations in the system. The curvature of the tracks north of the station should have led you to narrow this down to Suitland. Bridges would be visible from this perspective at Southern Avenue, Branch Avenue, and Franconia-Springfield.

14 of you deduced that this was Suitland.

Image 3: Tenleytown

The third image shows the western entrance to Tenleytown station. The primary clue here is the large “B” above the escalator. It's the first letter of the sign for the adjacent Best Buy.

15 of you guessed correctly.

Image 4: Shady Grove

The fourth image shows Crabbs Branch flowing between Garage 1 and the east bus loop at Shady Grove station. This vegetated area provides some green space to make the wait for the bus a little more pleasant. The southeastern stair tower for Garage 1 is just visible at far left, and that was one clue for those who didn't recognize the watercourse.

17 figured it out.

Image 5: Largo Town Center

The final image was the hardest. It shows the lobby outside the southern garage at the station. Some of you were able to make out the sign saying “garage elevators”, and that helped you determine that this was a suburban station. The newer stair railings should have helped further narrow this down to one of the post-2001 stations, which were expansions beyond the Adopted Regional System.

The only post-2001 stations with garages are Largo and Wiehle Avenue, and at Wiehle, the parking garage is not located directly adjacent to the station, instead being placed across the
westbound lanes of the Dulles Airport Access Road and Dulles Toll Road. Only 10 of you came to the correct conclusion.

Great work, everyone. Thanks for playing! We'll be back in 2018 with challenge #117.
