Lunch links: Happy hour grab bag
Join us for happy hour tonight
Join GGW contributors and readers for a happy hour this evening. We’ll be gathering at 6:30 pm at Hank’s in University Town Center, located at 6507 America Boulevard in Hyattsville, near the Green Line’s Prince George’s Plaza Metro station. See you there!
Making the grade
The Action Committee for Transit has posted its Montgomery County candidate scorecard for the 2010 primary on its website. Scorecards will also be distributed at Metro stations by ACT volunteers later this month. Volunteers are needed and should contact admin@actfortransit.org. (Ben Ross) (Tip: Ben Ross)
How Wells is urbanism doing in Ward 6?
At the Post, Mike DeBonis takes a look at the Ward 6 race, where Tommy Wells’ opponent is charging that “livable and walkable” is code for gentrification. Over at City Paper, Housing Complex offers some advice for urbanists looking to show skeptical audiences how they stand to benefit from sidewalks, bike lanes and transit-oriented development. Hey! I’m walkin’ heah
New York City will redesign 60 miles of streets each year as part of its ambitious program to reduce pedestrian deaths by 3% annually. A comprehensive study of pedestrian accidents dating back to 2002 is being used to facilitate the program’s work. (Wall Street Journal)
East of the river, west of recognition
At Marginal Revolution, Tyler Cowen asks why there are so few restaurants in Anacostia. Congress Heights on the Rise calls him out for labeling everything east of the river as Anacostia.
What’s in your development?
