No paper trail
Beginning this Sunday, Metro will no longer be accepting paper fare cards. Riders still holding paper cards can have the funds transferred to SmarTrips until the end of June. (DCist)

Union Station’s Center Cafe served its last drinks before closing for good last night. The bar has been in operation since 1988, but was not part of the station’s original design, and many preservationists didn’t like it. (Post)

Pot activists are holding a public “smoke-in” outside the White House this afternoon
on April 2. The protest is part of an effort to push President Obama to change how the feds categorize marijuana. (DCist)
River Road response
3 people recently died in a car crash at a River Road and Braeburn Parkway in Bethesda. 15 local officials sent a letter to Maryland’s SHA pointing out hazards and asking for a traffic light. (Bethesda Magazine)
Streetcar clap back
Senator Rand Paul says the DC streetcar is an example of government waste, but advocates in favor of a similar line in Kentucky say Paul’s office has been supportive of their efforts. (Post)
