Brandon Todd won the Ward 4 Council seat, but Ward 8 is still too close to call with only 152 votes between LaRuby May and Trayon White. The race will likely go to a recount. (City Paper)
It’s official
The WMATA board unanimously approved the names “Loudoun Gateway” and “Ashburn” for the final two stops of the Silver Line in Loudoun County. (WBJ)
Capital cuts
A House subcommittee slashed WMATA’s rebuilding grants for next year from $150 to $75 million. The grants are part of a program to help Metro purchase safer railcars and step up safety-critical track work after the 2009 crash. (WAMU)
A calmer day
Baltimore had a more peaceful day yesterday. Many offices, malls, and schools were closed, but most are scheduled to open on time today. The Orioles will play in an empty stadium. (Post)
Summer of our discontent
Additional delays have pushed the completion of the Silver Spring Transit Center back to late June. At the earliest, it would open for passengers by late summer, four years past the promised opening date. (Post)
Too much
Developers scaled back on residential units, parking, and commercial space for the planned Brookland Manor overhaul in Brentwood in response to DC Planning concerns that the project was too tall and too dense for the area. (WBJ)
Fixing Route 1
One of the most dangerous stretches of road for pedestrians in Virginia, a section of Route 1 through Hybla Valley in Fairfax, will get new sidewalks and a study on dedicated bus lanes. But there are also plans to widen the road. (WAMU)
End of an era
Is the “freeway era” in California truly over? Los Angeles area residents are gearing up for a battle against a massive project that would connect the I-210 and I-710 freeways with a tunnel under South Pasadena. (Next City)
