New bike counters on the Met Branch Trail and I Street SW will help DDOT understand how many people bike those routes. One will also be coming to a downtown cycletrack in the near future. (WABA)
Buses on the shoulder
VDOT will begin a pilot program to allow buses to travel on the shoulder of I-66 to bypass slow traffic. Allowing the bus on the shoulder may encourage commuters to ride transit. (Post)
Channel your bike
A new bike channel along the 34th Street steps will make it easier to haul your bike from the C&O Canal to the street. The Georgetown BID paid for the channel. (Georgetown Metropolitan)
Bike racks for Bike Rack
An on-street parking spot will become bike parking outside the Bike Rack bike shop. DDOT has converted about a dozen spaces already and expects to do more in the future. (City Paper)
Church fight goes another round
Some residents have wanted to stop the St. Thomas Parish in Dupont Circle from building on its ruins and park, but one lawyer says that would violate civil rights laws. Meanwhile, the preservation board didn’t block the project, but did ask for a number of architectural changes. (SALM, District Source)
