Arlington’s Smart Growth Journey: Affordability
Arlington has been so successful that many people want to live there. But that very success means many people can’t afford to live in most of Arlington. Arlington’s Smart Growth Journey: Introduction
How did Arlington get to be the way it is? Is it its proximity to Washington, DC? The Pentagon? The Metro? Arlington created a documentary, Arlington’s Smart Growth Journey, to explore this question and the history of Arlington’s evolution into a national model for Smart Growth. I’ve cut up the documentary into sections, so we can watch and discuss a little at a… Keep reading…

In 2005, the Base Closure and Realignment Commission (BRAC) recommended transferring thousands of defense jobs out of Crystal City. Accordingly, in 2006, the Arlington County Board established a task force to “create a vision for the future development of Crystal City.” They produced, and in December 2008 the County Board adopted, a vision and framework.
