Commenters had almost universally negative reactions to DDOT’s South Capitol Street project, which would build a new Frederick Douglass Bridge with a circle and “racetrack” on each end. DDOT needs to fix or replace the Frederick Douglass Bridge on South Capitol Street, and the Gray administration has started moving decisively forward with the project. It was Councilmember Marion Barry (ward 8) who had the day’s most relevant quote. “Streetcars are about connecting communities,” he said, as he urged his colleagues to support the proposed 1.3-mile, $43-million Anacostia demonstration streetcar in his ward.
