Metro Reasons: How are the Blue & Yellow Line shuttles handling shutdown crowds?
Metro’s shuttle buses are handling crowds well during the Yellow and Blue Line shutdown, upbeat Metro staff said when they briefed the agency’s Riders’ Advisory Council (RAC) last Wednesday. The six Yellow and Blue Line stations south of National Airport were closed last weekend from May 4 to 5, as Metro, Alexandria’s DASH, and Metro’s contractors geared up for the 107-day-long shutdown set to begin May 25. The Red Line shutdowns made for a hectic Monday commute
The first rush hour shutdown of the 45-day Red Line shutdown between NoMa and Fort Totten began Monday, July 23 and the commute was unsurprisingly hectic. Bus shuttles between the stations took longer than many expected, and numerous riders reported Fort Totten and Gallery Place were packed from those transferring to and from the Green Line. A pop-up bus lane is on its way for Rhode Island Ave NE
A new “pop-up” bus lane will be coming to DC this summer, thanks to a Metro shutdown and your advocacy. Recently the DC Department of Transportation (DDOT) confirmed that in order to help mitigate effects of the previously announced Red Line shutdown this summer, they will be installing a temporary bus lane on Rhode Island Ave NW.
