The Seven Corners pedestrian bridge: one year later
A pedestrian bridge across Route 50 near Seven Corners in Fairfax County opened in May of 2009. Last year I posted twice about this feature. How great are tree grates?
DDOT will soon be bidding contracts to reconstruct 18th Street in Adams Morgan. Adams Morgan Main Street is trying to persuade them to replace the standard tree boxes with grates. Tree boxes fence off an area for the tree’s soil and roots. Meanwhile, tree grates cover that space with a surface that people can walk on, but which allow rainwater to run down to the soil beneath. Crossing Route 7 will mean long waits in Tysons
VDOT is widening Route 7 in Tysons Corner to fit in the Silver Line. New signals will require pedestrians to use two full light cycles to cross the road. This is making pedestrian conditions worse just as Fairfax is trying to transform Tysons into a more walkable place. Keep reading…

Replace rush hour parking restrictions with curb bulb-outs
The Chicago Department of Transportation recommended in April lifting rush hour parking restrictions on 225 of the busiest blocks in Chicago.
