Charles Allen to Park Police: Handcuffing black teens for selling water is ridiculous
On Thursday, undercover US Park Police handcuffed four black teenagers for selling bottled water without a permit on the National Mall. The next day, Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen basically asked the police chief if, in the name of enforcing park rules, his officers would do the same if they caught little girls selling lemonade. How I biked to work with inauguration security barriers
Starting today, large swathes of the area in DC around the National Mall, along with the Memorial Bridge, are closed to cars, bikes, and pedestrians for the inauguration and related events. I had to rethink my commute today, but while I feared a difficult trip with barriers and police turning me around at unexpected points, I was pleasantly surprised with how easy and unremarkable it was.
