ACT creates Montgomery County transit vision
Last July, Montgomery County’s Action Committee for Transit worked with Greater Greater Washington to produce a transit vision for the I-270 corridor. Rather than spending billions of dollars on widening I-270 as the State of Maryland proposes, ACT argued that it would be better and more affordable to invest in a vigorous integrated transit network. That was all well… Keep reading…

Emails with links a recipe for WMATA site overload
Over the past week, Metro has seen a number of major service disruptions, mainly due to the heavy snowfall. But WMATA’s method of communicating over email, which sends messages with only a link to a page on WMATA.com instead of the text of the announcement, turned out to be useless when too many people tried to view the release. Thursday evening, the Office of Personnel Management… Keep reading…

Metrorail to run most service tomorrow
WMATA.com is currently only sporadically available, probably because everyone is trying to load the press release they just posted about tomorrow’s service. MARC should (and must) allow bikes

The only other commuter rail line with a total bike ban is the South Shore Line between South Bend, Indiana and Chicago operated by the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District. The Maryland Transit Administration, which operates MARC, cites safety… Keep reading…

Is a Green Line extension wise?
Commenters raised a variety of objections to the possibility of extending the Green Line to Fort Meade, as Prince George’s County is proposing. Some argued that the corridor was not viable to support Metro, it was already served by the Camden Line of MARC, and that it’s too far away from the city. For full disclosure, I am employed at Fort Meade, and I was stationed there… Keep reading…
