Poll finds residents want more transit, like Metro
A new Washington Post poll shows large majorities of residents favor transit expansion and are generally pleased with the quality of Metro. 62% of respondents said the region should focus its resources on “providing more public transportation options, such as trains or buses,” while 30% favored “expanding and building roads” (question 16). Fenty budget raids Anacostia fund, breaks Council’s word
Mayor Fenty’s proposed FY2011 budget reprograms the revenue from the Anacostia cleanup fund, generated by the 5¢ bag fee. The Council should quickly reject this approach. Maryland broke, can’t meet WMATA capital commitments
The State of Maryland has asked WMATA for permission to defer $28.7 million in promised capital contributions for two years, since their Transportation Trust Fund is in such dire straits they can’t afford to make the payment on time. Fenty budget sets stage for huge transit cuts
Mayor Fenty’s proposed FY2011 budget, released yesterday, made no change to the contribution levels for transit, setting the stage for massive service cuts on top of large fare increases.
