DC Council Chairman Mendelson’s budget slashes the streetcar to Benning Road
Residents of DC's Ward 7, who have long awaited new investment in their community and support extending the H Street streetcar line to Benning Road, will have to wait six years or forever if the budget released last night by Chairman Phil Mendelson passes. That budget cuts about $97 million from transportation capital projects. Keep reading…

DC is about to get a big settlement from Volkswagen, and the money has to go toward electric vehicles. Meanwhile, there are plans to eventually make all of the Circulator buses electric. One great option for putting the windfall to use: spend it on electrifying the buses more quickly. Keep reading…

I work near the White House, and I see near misses—and sometimes crashes—between bicyclists and pedestrians in the 15th Street bike lanes there way too often. For the last few years, the DC Department of Transportation (DDOT) has been looking at adding new bike lanes through Shaw and downtown, from Florida to Constitution Avenue. There are now three options on the table: a protected bikeway like the one on 15th Street NW on either 6th or 9th Street NW, or nothing at all. Keep reading…

The buses that run up and down 14th Street NW (the 52, 53, 54) are among the most popular in DC. 14th Street has grown tremendously in population and in number of businesses, but faster bus service hasn’t followed even though there’s a great idea on the table. With your help, that can change! Keep reading…
