What’s a tax, what’s a fee, and what’s just a shell game
According to the City Paper, the DC Council has removed the “streetlight fee,” and will find $12 million elsewhere. The “fee” would have charged electric customers a flat rate of $4.25 a month for residential customers, $16.75 a month for commercial customers, and $42 a month for others. Keep reading…

Now there’s really too much parking at DC USA
The latest casualty of the economic downturn is a second grocery store at Columbia Heights. Metro should start publicly discussing next year’s budget now
Riders packed Friday’s Metro hearing, urging Metro to consider other alternatives to bus service cuts. Unfortunately for riders, the Board pre-rejected most of the alternatives before involving the public at all, and compressed the period for public involvement into a single week of hearings and less than a month in all.
