Virginians will go to the polls on November 5 to select a new General Assembly and representatives for many local offices in our region and around the state. The high-stakes state legislative races will determine partisan control. Northern Virginia primary voters toss incumbent prosecutors, keep incumbent legislators
Criminal justice reformers unseated the chief prosecutors of Arlington and Fairfax counties Tuesday night in very low turnout elections, while voters renominated Democratic incumbents for General Assembly seats in the region. In the 49th House district in Arlington and Fairfax, we endorse Alfonso Lopez for renomination in the Democratic primary. In the 31st Senate district in Arlington, Fairfax, and Loudoun, we endorse Democratic challenger Nicole Merlene. Affordable housing was a hot topic at the VA House District 49 candidates’ forum
Incumbent Alfonso Lopez and challenger Julius D. “JD” Spain, running for the Democratic nomination in Virginia House of Delegates District 49, took questions from voters at a candidates' forum on the morning of May 11 at Busboys & Poets in Shirlington.
