The Departments of Motor Vehicles (DMVs) and Motor Vehicle Administration for the District, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) have collaborated to launch a region-wide competition for children to show off their artistic skills by designing temporary license plates. The contest is billed as a coordinated regional response to the spread of fake tags.

“Some of the fake tags look pretty far-fetched anyway,” said E.N. Forsmint, a DMV official. “But since drivers aren’t getting pulled over or disincentivized in any way for using them, we thought why not let the kids have some fun with it?”

GGWash got an early peek at a few of the entries. They look even more realistic than some of the ones we’ve seen on the road. Nice work, kids! They look just as good as the real, fake thing.
