Attend a transit holiday party: RISE Prince George’s,Creative Suitland, and other partners are teaming up to host an end of the year holiday celebration for anyone who is passionate about building a safer and more vibrant Prince George’s County, Maryland. Legislators of Prince George’s County that have been working towards safer streets and better transit have been invited to be celebrated. Alongside legislators and the community, there will also be various transportation oriented organizations there to chat with about transportation in the year 2023, and what it may look like in 2024. Learn about Mobility as a Service: Mobility as a Service, or MaaS, is a concept that works to integrate services into mobility solutions. It is seen as the future of mobility in urban areas. The Federal Transit Administration is hosting a webinar to discuss the current state of MaaS and what the future of mobility may look like. Help refurbish donated bicycles: Join Vélocity Bicycle Cooperative at The Warehouse to refurbish donated bicycles next Thursday. This is a great way to improve your bicycle mechanic skills, as no prior knowledge or experience is needed. Take the opportunity to get hands-on experience as well as help clean up and organize the space at this volunteer run community event. Kick off the new year at Transportation Camp: Every year, transportation enthusiasts get together on the first Saturday in January to share their ideas and map out new possibilities. This year, Transportation camp will take place on Saturday, January 6 at George Mason University’s Arlington campus. As cities across the country work to reconnect communities divided by harmful infrastructure, pedestrian fatalities continue to rise, and new technology presents opportunities and challenges for the future of transportation, there’s no better way to start a new year. We’ll be hosting our second-ever Planners of Color meet-up on Tuesday, January 9 from 6:00 - 9:00 at the DACHA Beer Garden location in Shaw. There will also be an LGBTQ+ affinity happy hour for TRB participants, transportation lovers and allies happening at the same time at DACHA (not hosted by us), so if you’re a queer person of color, you don’t have to pick which event to go to.
