Some landlords in DC are able to evade rent control laws due to a lack of enforcement from the Department of Housing and Community Development and time limits for tenants to file complaints, which enables landlords to leverage tactics such as failure to show past rental increases to new tenants or failing to register rent-controlled units. Alexandria’s Zoning for All set for final vote on Tuesday
Alexandria City Council will vote Tuesday on the Zoning for All slate of reforms, following Planning Commission approval earlier this fall. The proposal is estimated to allow a net increase of 2,800 housing units over the next decade. It aims to increase the number of market-rate and income-restricted affordable units and increase the diversity of housing types in a more geographically dispersed fashion. DC Council proposes creation of three pedestrian zones
