Meet the author of “Excluded”: Join the YIMBYS of Northern Virginia and Richard Kahlenberg as he unpacks his recently published book Excluded. This book focuses on the history of redlining and segregation dating back to the 20th century. There will be copies of the book and the author available to answer any and all questions. Even if you have not read the book just yet, this is a great opportunity to learn more about the intersections of endemic racial and class discrimination and today’s housing affordability crisis. Ride for commuter safety: All federal government employees are welcomed to show their support for safe commuter routes at the Washington Area Bicyclist Association’s Federal Workers Bike Ride and Rally this Wednesday, October 25. There will be light refreshments at the end during the rally and speakers to talk about the different ways federal workers can support the building of safe commuter routes. Learn more & RSVP here.

Hear from Veronica Davis about her new book: In Veronica Davis’ new book, Inclusive Transportation: A Manifesto for Repairing Divided Communities, Davis sheds light on the inequalities regarding underserved communities in the realm of transportation planning. Support pedestrian safety in Fairfax: This Wednesday, October 25, representatives from the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) are hosting a community meeting to follow up on current and future pedestrian safety implementations in the Culmore area. Attend DC Council hearing on cyclist and pedestrian safety: This Thursday, October 26, the DC Council’s Transportation and Environment Committee is holding a public hearing to discuss three bills: the Access to Home Amendment Act of 2023, the Trick-or-Streets Amendment Act of 2023, and the Prioritizing People in Planning Amendment Act of 2023.
