Owner of Georgetown’s Transformers statues will continue to fight

A brain scientist who owns the Transformers statues in Georgetown says he won’t stop fighting to keep his statues after the Old Georgetown Board ordered them removed. Long Bridge reconstruction to double train capacity could be delayed by inflation

Virginia officials announced that the construction of a new span of Long Bridge over the Potomac could be delayed if the once fully-funded project can’t find the funds to account for cost inflation. The project, set to open in 2030, will add a passenger railroad-only bridge span, add an extra track to the existing three near L’Enfant Plaza, and attach a pedestrian and bike path along the existing bridge connecting East Potomac Park in DC and Long Bridge Park in Virginia.  (Luz Lazo / Post)  

WMATA seeks help from local police departments to boost security on transit

WMATA is getting officers from local police departments and special police officers to help patrol rail and bus stations by paying overtime rates. The move is a part of the latest effort to help Metro Transit Police combat rising crime, which WMATA believes could affect how often some people use transit.  (Justin George / Post)  

Home listings in eastern DC neighborhoods most likely to see price drop

About 20% of residential real estate listings in DC are seeing their prices drop, likely due to high interest rates. Neighborhoods in the eastern half of DC such as Woodridge, Deanwood, and Riggs Parks are more likely to see their listing prices decline.  (UrbanTurf)  

MoCo to study rent regulations to inform rent stabilization bills

The Montgomery County Office of Legislative Oversight will conduct research on rent regulation to help inform two legislative proposals that call for different levels of rent stabilization. Both bills will be discussed during a County Council committee hearing on June 15.  (Apps Bichu / MoCo360)  

DC Council’s proposed interventions to prevent large rent hikes stymied

Up to 90,000 rent-stabilized households in DC could see their rents rise by 8.9% due to surging inflation. While the DC Council could pass emergency legislation to limit the rental increases, a lack of support for current proposals and concerns about how to pay for them means it’s increasingly unlikely the council will act soon.  (Morgan Baskin / DCist)  

Another vehicle-related pedestrian death along Route 1 in Ft. Belvoir

A pedestrian died after being struck by a motorist near Route 1 and the Fairfax County Parkway near Fort Belvoir, Virginia.  The incident follows another vehicle-related pedestrian death along Route 1 over a week ago.  Police have been attempting to get drivers to slow down on Route 1 by stepping up traffic enforcement.  (Juliana Valencia / NBC Washington)
