Interested in improving road safety in Upcounty, Maryland? In need of Valentine’s Day plans? Join the Action Committee for Transit (ACT) on Tuesday, February 14 at the Silver Spring Civic Center in building an UpCounty Coalition for Road Safety during February’s monthly meeting (meetings held on the second Tuesday of each month). This month’s meeting will be led by speaker, Erik Herron, an HOA board member in Germantown who has organized his community to improve pedestrian and road safety. He is a community activist, lawyer, and commissioner on the Montgomery County Commission on Common Ownership Communities. Tuesday, February 7:

Discuss Purple Line Construction in Bethesda/Chevy Chase: The Maryland Department of Transportation and Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT, MTA) are currently holding a series of Purple Line Community Advisory Team (CAT) meetings during the month of February. The meetings are virtual via Microsoft Teams and provide updates on construction activities at the neighborhood level.

The CAT meetings are member-driven teams of representatives appointed by neighborhood, civic, and business associations and local governments. Join the virtual meeting with the Bethesda/Chevy Chase CAT team this Tuesday at 6:00 PM. Learn more here.

Bike light giveaway in Shaw: The Bike Ambassadors of the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) will be providing free front and rear bike lights to bicyclists who have forgotten or are in need of them at various locations in Washington, D.C. throughout the month of February. If you are interested in joining fellow volunteers in giving away free bike lights, or are in need of a bike light, attend this Wednesday’s giveaway event at the Shaw neighborhood library.
