Alexandria might relax taxi industry regulations
The Alexandria Traffic and Parking Board is considering relaxed regulations to support the taxi cab industry, which was affected by the pandemic and competition from ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft. Potential changes include eliminating age requirements for taxi cab vehicles, allowing taxi companies to reduce size to meet demand without incurring penalties, and continuing fee reductions. Federal funds for students experiencing homelessness spread unevenly across DC schools
A DCist/WAMU and Street Sense Media investigation found that local schools receive unequal levels of federal funding to support children and their families who are homeless, in part because the dollars are distributed through a competitive process rather than according to need. DC councilmember introduces electric vehicle charging infrastructure bill
DC Councilmember Charles Allen introduced legislation to bring 7,500 electric vehicle charging stations to DC over the next four years using federal funds, incentivizing station installation, and new requirements for commercial, multi-unit, and new residential buildings. Artists in residence at Fairfax County affordable housing buildings, libraries in 2023

Gaithersburg condo building explodes due to gas leak
Twelve people were injured when a gas line under the 800 block of Quince Orchard Boulevard exploded Wednesday morning, causing two residential buildings to collapse.
