Rock Creek Park, Rock Creek Conservancy, LINK Strategic Partners, and the Friends of Peirce Mill are partnering to host a conversation with Chris Myers Asch, co-author of the book “Chocolate City,” about the history of race in DC.

The interview will be followed by small group discussions about how the past has shaped our experiences today.

How transit agencies are shifting: The Eno Center for Transportation is hosting an online event to discuss how transit boards can pivot to new approaches, technologies, and partnerships in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speakers include Alice N. Bravo, P.E., the director at Miami-Dade Transportation and Public Works; Gary C. Thomas, the president and executive director of Dallas Area Rapid Transit; Tina Quigley, a Waycare advisory board member and the former CEO of the Regional Transportation Commission; Rob Puentes, the president and CEO of the Eno Center for Transportation.

These transit leaders will dive into how to overcome challenges when implementing new practices and share new innovations that the transit industry can look forward to.

Another transportation conversation. This time regarding air systems: The Transportation Research Forum, WTS Washington, D.C., and Young Professionals in Transportation are hosting their 11th annual joint summer event. This year’s theme is “From Grounded to Take-Off: A Discussion on Domestic and International Aviation Recovery.”

The discussion will center around the impact of COVID-19 on domestic and international travel, plus ways that countries, airlines, and airports are ensuring safe, secure, and resilient air transportation systems during this time.

Panelists include Carey Fagan, the director of the Asia-Pacific Region of the Federal Aviation Administration; Dr. Ansa Jordaan, the chief of the Aviation Medicine Section at the International Civil Aviation Organization; and Annie Russo, the senior vice president of government and political affairs at the airports Council International - North America.

Each panelist will share how their organizations are helping to safeguard the flying experience and provide insights on how public health fits into long-term recovery strategies.

Remembering our segregated history: Real estate firm Go Brent is hosting a community discussion of Richard Rothstein’s “The Color of Law,” which lays out the forgotten history of how the federal government segregated the US. If you haven’t read the book, you can check out this GGWash article by Ben Locksin as a primer.

The discussion will be led by Cindy Jordan, Al Carr, Cherri Branson, Ethan Handelman, and GGWash’s own Dan Reed.
