Whether you’ve already devoured “Better Buses, Better Cities” (check out our review), or it’s on your holiday reading or gifting list, mark your calendar for next week, when author Steven Higashide comes to DC to talk about applying the book’s principles in the Washington region, from the Bus Transformation Project to more local service. The lecture begins at 6:30 pm, and is at the Georgetown School of Continuing Studies at 640 Massachusetts Ave NW in Washington, DC. Registration is free.

Greater Riverdale, MD is visioning its future: This Prince George’s County community is in the midst of a visioning process for the community’s future, and the projects that will get them there. People who live, work, learn, and/or worship in the area are invited to one of four visioning workshops the share their ideas and opinions. The next workshop is December 4, at William Wirt Middle School, 6200 Tuckerman Street, in Riverdale Park. Doors open at 5:30, and the workshop is from 6-8 pm. Hablamos español. Architecture for deeper truths: Can architecture really wrestle with our most difficult truths, reveal hidden narratives of our social structure, and seek to reconstruct the systems that perpetuate injustice? Michael Murphy, Founding Principal and Executive Director of MASS Design Group, will showcase a series of projects that do just that, at Space and Memory. This event is hosted by the National Capital Planning Commission, 401 9th Street, NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC, from 6:30-7:30 pm. The event is open to the public but (free) registration is required.

Keep pushing to make Florida Ave NE and Dave Thomas Circle safer: While temporary fixes are finally in place on one of DC’s most dangerous stretches of roadway, there is still a lot of work to done on this stretch of Florida Avenue, from 2nd to H Street NE. Attend this DDOT open house to share your feedback with staff on the the Florida Avenue NE Streetscape Project and the Dave Thomas Circle (Florida Ave-NY Ave NE) Intersection Project. The open house is from 6 to 8 pm, with brief presentations at 6:20 and 7:20. More information and project materials are here.
