The Florida Avenue interim bikeway—a temporary protected bikeway that the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is adding until the permanent version is fully designed—is now officially under construction.

The bikeway will run along Florida Avenue NE roughly from the Red Line Metro tracks to just shy of Starburst intersection. DDOT agreed to install it following a van driver killing Dave Salovesh on the road this spring.

Workers began re-milling and re-paving the southbound curbside lane on or around Wednesday, July 10. They’re starting at the Union Market end of the street, and working their way southeast. According to DDOT’s website, the bikeway will be ready around the end of September.
