Our GGWash happy hour in Mount Rainier last summer. Image by Dan Reed.

Well, actually, most people seem to be on vacation this week. So, we wanted to remind folks that Greater Greater Washington is a place for sharing events, public planning process, or other ways readers can share thoughts about how to make our urban areas work better. Check out upcoming opportunities to get involved, or, share an event you've got on your calendar.

Submit your events!

Every Monday GGWash publishes a round up of events that are related to our region's urban areas. From social events like happy hours and bike rides to educational opportunities like book readings, share events you know about with others. We also want to connect readers with public planning process, so send open comment opportunities to us, too.

The best way to share your event is through the website: ggwash.org/calendar/submit. You'll need to include a link to the event details and basic information. We'll review all submissions and post relevant ones to the site. Check out all the upcoming events, here!

You can also send events to events@ggwash.org. Make sure to include a link!

Today's the last day to take the Visualize 2045 Survey!

Hear from one black, female architect about her career journey on Friday, September 15th

WIDEA (Women Inspiring Design, Equity in Architecture), is hosting a talk with Dina Griffin, AIA, as part of a campaign to raise public awareness of architects and how the profession’s specialized training and experience in technology and aesthetics contribute to society. Ms. Griffin, has her own firm, Interactive Design Associates and will talk about the importance of mentoring and outreach to students and young professionals, particularly as a way to address the low number of people of color in the architecture field.

This lecture is on Friday, September 15 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Grand Hyatt Hotel (1000 H Street NW). Admission is $10, and you can buy tickets here.

Car free day is back. Are you ready?

On Friday, September 22, car free day is back in the DC area. If you regularly use your car to commute or get around, the Car Free Day encourages you to “drop it for a day!” Try telework, bicycling, walking, transit, or carpooling for one day. Those who take the free pledge will get a coupon for Chipotle and be entered into a raffle for prizes including Capital Bikeshare memberships, a $25 SmarTrip card, and a Kindle Fire. You can sign up at www.carfreemetrodc.org. If you're already car free, challenge someone you know!
