Our birthday party can change your life! Just ask Nicole and Brian. Nicole is an ANC commissioner and urbanist at heart. Brian is a blogger who often contributes posts to GGWash.

They met at GGWash's 8th birthday party last year, bonding over a shared love of all things bicycle, transportation, and, of course, Greater Greater Washington. One year later, we were so excited to hear that they got engaged! In true urbanist form, Brian popped the question under the cherry blossoms after biking down to the tidal basin using Capital Bikeshare. Congratulations, Nicole and Brian!

This year, our party is on Wednesday, March 29 from 6:30 to 9 pm at Sudhouse, located at 1340 U Street NW. While we can't guarantee matchmaking services, we can promise a fun night with good people who believe that the Washington, DC area is great and, together, we can make it greater. Won't you join us?

If you haven't RSVP'd yet, what are you waiting for?! The birthday party celebrates a (hopefully!) successful reader drive. This year we're aiming to raise $30,000 and are almost halfway there. If you haven't donated yet (or even if you have!) consider adding a $25 donation when you RSVP to get us one step closer to our goal.

Sudhouse is located one block from the U Street Metro station on the Green and Yellow lines. If you’re coming by bus, Metrobus routes 90/92/96 stop outside the bar, the S2/S4/S9 stop two blocks away at 16th and U, and the 52/53/54 and DC Circulator all stop around the corner at 14th and U. There are Capital Bikeshare stations at 12th and U and outside the Reeves Center at 14th and U, both one block away.

Of course, there are a couple weeks between now and our party. In the meantime, check out these great opportunities to get involved in your community:

Monday and Wednesday, March 13 and 15: Montgomery County first announced its plan to build a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system on Route 29 a year ago. Now, there is a clear plan to get it running from Burtonsville to Downtown Silver Spring by 2020. Learn more at one of two open houses this week. There is one Monday, March 13 at 7 pm at Montgomery Blair High School (51 University Boulevard East) and one on Wednesday, March 15 at White Oak Community Center (1700 April Lane).

Tuesday, March 14: WMATA's proposed budget for FY 2018 reduces service and raises fares. But it also has Metro asking for more money from DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Hear about the new Metro budget and its meaning for the future from Washington Post's Robert Thomson, aka “Dr. Gridlock,” at this month's Action Committee for Transit meeting at 7:30 pm at Silver Spring Civic Center (One Veterans Place).

Thursday, March 16: Head over to Alexandria next Thursday for a happy hour with the Coalition for Smarter Growth, Alexandria Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee, and Alexandria Spokeswomen. Don't miss this lovely night of socializing and chatting about biking, housing, and responsible growth in Alexandria and our region. The happy hour is at the Light Horse in Old Town (715 King Street) at 6:30 pm.

Thursday, March 16: Fairfax County wants to make biking and walking in the Hunter Mill District safer. Head out to a community meeting at 6:30 pm at Dogwood Elementary School (12300 Glade Drive) in Reston to weigh in on proposed bike lanes and other changes.

Thursday, March 16: DC needs more affordable housing. One unexplored solution is to convert abandoned office and commercial spaces into multi-family housing near transit and employment. Hear about this possibility at a lecture with Michael Wiencek from Wiencek + Associate Architects + Planner and Urban Atlantic’s Vicki Davis this Thursday at 6:30 pm at 421 7th Street NW. This is a paid event.
