I am a strong supporter of Transportation Alternatives, which promotes public policy to enhance public transit and bicycle use while reducing dependence on cars. New York leads all American cities by a huge margin in its percentage of residents who commute to work in ways other than driving. This is good for communities, the environment, the economy, and foreign relations, and we should be encouraging it in every way possible.
I also strongly support the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the oldest and most successful organization fighting censorship of academic research, draconian copyright regulation, and other erosions of fundamental rights online. Our era is already marked by a huge loss of civil rights, and we should not allow this to turn a thriving, exciting world of technological innovation into one marked by fear and control.
