Montgomery is listening; urge them to be smart
Montgomery Park and Planning is holding “listening sessions” on their Growth Policy tonight in downtown Silver Spring and next Monday at Shady Grove. The “no growth at all” and “growth anywhere, especially way at the auto-dependent edge of the County” viewpoints will surely be well represented. It would help for more people to speak up for focusing growth in walkable, transit-accessible parts of the County. 7-9 pm, today at Park and Planning Headquarters, 8787 Georgia Ave, and next week at the Shady Grove Training Center, 16641 Crabbs Branch Way, Rockville.
Arlington is already pretty smart
Also tonight, Arlington is screening its documentary Arlington’s Smart Growth Journey, about Arlington’s visionary and amazingly successful decision to put the Orange Line underground and focus growth around it. 7 pm at the Arlington Central Library, 1015 N Quincy St (Metro: Virginia Square or Ballston)
BRAC is really not smart at all
At their monthly meeting Tuesday, the Action Committee for Transit will hear from Casey Anderson, WABA board member, about the (poor) planning for bicycles and pedestrians around the upcoming combined military medical center in Bethesda. 7:30 pm, 8818 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring.

Listen to bloggers
Next American City‘s blogger salon is coming up on Thursday, May 21st. It’s free if you subscribe, and if you don’t, you can subscribe for a discounted rate of $15 and get into the panel as well. Besides, if you read this blog and don’t already subscribe, you’re missing out.
Walk around DC
Starting today, you can register for the WalkingTown DC tours that require reservations. About a third of the tours do, though there are plenty of terrific ones that don’t. The tours are Saturday and Sunday, May 30-31.
