On April 22, you can support a very worthy nonprofit organization and meet new DDOT Director (acting, soon to be official) Gabe Klein. I’m organizing a house party for the Coalition for Smarter Growth that evening, with Klein as our special guest. I hope that some of you can make a $100 contribution to the organization and join us.

The Coalition for Smarter Growth promotes transit-oriented development and better transportation policy in the Greater Washington area. Their policy research and action campaigns go hand in hand with the work we do here on Greater Greater Washington. They’ve provided us with great ideas for posts and background information. And they’ve worked hard to organize residents around the same campaigns we’ve worked on, such as the parking hearings at the Zoning Commission.

Blogs and traditional advocacy organizations have often developed a symbiotic relationship. Together, we accomplish more than we can alone. As you all know, the economy is doing poorly, and all nonprofit organizations are feeling the pinch as major donors give less money to large foundations to distribute. We need to help make up some of the difference so the Coalition can keep doing their terrific work.

At April’s house party, we can only accommodate a small number of people, so we’re asking for contributions of $100. If you can contribute and want to attend, you can contribute here. The donation goes through the Piedmont Environmental Council, CSG’s fiscal agent. Enter ‘CSG’ in the Designation field (the first text box) and ‘April 22 house party’ in the Dedication (the second text box). We’re working on a simpler page to make it easier. And if you can’t attend or can’t afford $100, I hope you will still contribute what you can.
