Bowie’s car-swallowing, 8-foot wide sinkhole has been repaired
The sinkhole appeared Monday morning at Duckettown Road and Maple Avenue. Two cars got stuck in the sinkhole, but both cars have since been freed and the drivers are safe. (WJLA)
Renderings revealed for 671-unit mixed-use development near Nats Park
Brookfield Properties and the Menkiti Group shared renderings of The Yards, a proposed mixed-use development near First Street and N Place SE. The development would include 671 residential units and up to 49,000 square feet of retail across two buildings. It will also include greater activation of Diamond Teague Park along the Anacostia Waterfront. (UrbanTurf)
Fairfax County Planning Commission recommends plan to replace abandoned pool with townhouses
On November 16th, the Fairfax County Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of developer Craftmark Homes’ plan to redevelop an abandoned swimming pool into 28 townhouses in Reston. The sale of the property will help the Vantage Hill condominiums, an affordable housing community, to pursue necessary upgrades and maintenance to its existing housing stock. The plan includes the preservation of native plants and electric vehicle charging stations. The project awaits final approval from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. (Fatimah Waseem / FFXNow)
MoCo Police release name of pedestrian struck last week by driver in Rockville
Montgomery County Police have identified the pedestrian who was killed by a driver on Nov. 17 in Rockville. Paul Shinn, 46, was struck at Medical Center Way near Medical Center Drive. Shinn was taken to a hospital before succumbing to his injuries. (Apps Bichu / Bethesda Beat)
