In February 2008, David Alpert created Greater Greater Washington as a place where people across the DC area could come together to make it a stronger, more inclusive, more connected region. On Wednesday, March 29 from 6:30 to 9 pm, let's celebrate nine awesome years and wrap up our reader drive at Sudhouse, located at 1340 U Street NW.

Join Greater Greater Washington staff, contributors, readers, and supporters for an evening of drinks, snacks, and conversation. Sudhouse has limited space, so please let us know if you’re coming!

And if you're interested, we're bringing back our special GGWash trivia game, featuring questions picked from our 2016 posts. You can show off your esoteric urbanism knowledge and win awesome prizes! When you arrive, you can sign up to play with a $5 donation.

If you don’t want to play, don’t worry — you’ll still be able to mingle and talk. (But we think you’ll find it fun!)

The party is free (Sudhouse has put together a great happy hour menu for guests to purchase through a cash bar), but it’s also the end of our reader drive. Please help us hit our goal of $30,000 by making a monthly or one-time contribution now!

Sudhouse is located one block from the U Street Metro station on the Green and Yellow lines. If you’re coming by bus, Metrobus routes 90/92/96 stop outside the bar, the S2/S4/S9 stop two blocks away at 16th and U, and the 52/53/54 and DC Circulator all stop around the corner at 14th and U. There are Capital Bikeshare stations at 12th and U and outside the Reeves Center at 14th and U, both one block away.

Tuesday, March 7: At the seventh CaBi Hack Night, learn about apps and data visualizations specifically focused on Capital Bikeshare. One of the presentations will be by longtime GGWash contributor Tracy Hadden Loh, who will discuss how she built a tool for Rails-to-Trails to measure level-of-service for CaBi stations in Arlington. The event is at the WeWork Wonder Bread Factory (641 S street NW) at 6:30 pm.

Tuesday, March 7, and Next Monday and Wednesday, March 13 and 15: Montgomery County first announced its plan to build a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system on Route 29 a year ago. Now, there is a clear plan from to get it running from Burtonsville to Downtown Silver Spring by 2020. Learn more at one of three open houses over the next two weeks. The first one is this Tuesday, March 7, at 6:30 pm at Silver Spring Civic Center (1 Veterans Place). The second is next Monday, March 13 at 7 pm at Montgomery Blair High School (51 University Boulevard East) and the third is on Wednesday, March 15 at White Oak Community Center (1700 April Lane).

Saturday, March 11: All users should have access to public transportation, no matter what their age or phyisical abilities. The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is working on a set of recommendations to improve access to DC transit. Hear the current draft recommendations and weigh in at a listening session on Saturday, March 11, at 10 am at 441 4th Street NW.

Next Tuesday, March 14: WMATA's proposed budget for FY 2018 reduces service and raises fares. But it also has Metro asking for more money from DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Hear about the new Metro budget and its meaning for the future from Washington Post's Robert Thomson, aka “Dr Gridlock,” at this month's Action Committee for Transit meeting at 7:30 pm at Silver Spring Civic Center (One Veterans Place.)

Next Thursday, March 16: Head over to Alexandria next Thursday for a happy hour with the Coalition for Smarter Growth, Alexandria Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee, and Alexandria Spokeswomen. Don't miss this lovely night of socializing and chatting about biking, housing, and responsible growth in Alexandria and our region. The happy hour is at the Light Horse in Old Town (715 King Street) at 6 pm.
