Changes to I-66 and high speed rail to Richmond could transform transit in Virginia. You can learn about projects in Virginia this week, as well as hear from Montgomery County candidates, help celebrate a birthday, or ask the new WMATA general manager questions.

I-66 inside and outside the beltway: Learn about plans for major changes to I-66, and share your opinion with the Commonwealth Transportation Board. The meeting is on Tuesday, December 8th, at 6 pm at George Mason High School in Falls Church (7124 Leesburg Pike).

After the jump: Rail from DC to Richmond, a candidates forum, the Building Museum’s birthday, and the WMATA Riders’ Union.

DC to Richmond rail: High-speed rail could make travel between Richmond and DC a breeze. Attend one of three public meetings this week to get the most up to date information on the project. The first is this Tuesday, December 8, at 408 Canal Street in Fredericksburg. The second is on Wednesday, December 9, at 6550 Loisdale Road in Springfield, and the third is on Thursday, December 10, at 2300 West Broad Street in Richmond. All the meetings begin at 5 pm, with a presentation at 6 pm.

Montgomery candidate forum: Head over to this month’s Action Committee for Transit meeting to hear the candidates forum for Montgomery County’s District 8 congressional primary. The meeting is on Tuesday, December 8th. It starts at 7:30 pm at the Silver Sparing Civic Center, One Veterans Place.

Building Museum birthday: The National Building Museum turns 35 on Saturday, December 12. Help celebrate by checking out the free exhibits and participating in a LEGO community build.

Riders’ Union forum: The WMATA Rider’s Union will host a forum next Monday, December 14, with the new WMATA general manager, Paul Wiedefeld, who will offer a few remarks and answer questions. The forum begins at 6:30 pm at Martin Luther King Library (901 G Street NW) and registration is recommended.
